Service Description

Looking for a quiet day on the water with excellent fishing, scenic cruising, and a glimpse into the history that shaped Mathews County? East River is one of our favorite places to launch. This protected river offers a little bit of everything. Fish productive waters, cruise past historic waterfront homes, watch for osprey and other wildlife, or simply enjoy a relaxing day exploring one of the area's most beautiful waterways. The East River is also home to the Mathews Crew Team, and it's not uncommon to see rowers training on the river's calm waters. History is never far away here. Cruise toward Poplar Grove and view the historic Tide Mill, a reminder of a time when the tides themselves powered local industry. Along the way you'll pass shorelines, creeks, and waterfront communities that tell the story of Mathews County's deep connection to the Chesapeake Bay. The 17' York River Skiff is easy to operate and ideal for exploring at a relaxed pace. Its shallow draft allows access to creeks, coves, and shoreline areas that larger boats often cannot reach. Powered by a reliable 9.9 horsepower outboard, it is designed for fishing, crabbing, sightseeing, wildlife viewing, and exploring—not tubing, waterskiing, or other tow sports. Meet us at the launch ramp for a dockside orientation before setting off on your adventure. The rental includes required safety equipment and a Virginia Saltwater Boat Fishing License covering anglers fishing from the vessel. Anglers age 16 and older who do not already possess a Virginia saltwater fishing license must obtain a free Virginia Fisherman Identification Program (FIP) number prior to fishing. Whether you're casting a line, exploring local history, watching wildlife, or simply enjoying a peaceful cruise through one of Mathews County's most scenic waterways, East River offers an authentic Chesapeake Bay experience. Life on the water. Shared.
