17' York River Skiff

Great news! We are excited to announce the arrival of our new 2023 17' York River Skiff equipped with an environmentally friendly 2023 9.9 HP Mercury four stroke. This vessel can hold up to 4 persons with a max load of 800 pounds and all legally required safety equipment will be provided. Book your trip now and enjoy a safe and eco-friendly boating experience!

Our Destinations

Great for your next fishing trip, sunset cruise, beach or lighthouse excursion.  Our vessel can be delivered to most bodies of water in Mathews to a public dock.  Rentals and tours are available outside of Mathews just contact us for pricing.  We also offer delivery to your dock, or possibly even your vacation rentals dock.

Captain Taylor

Captain Taylor holds a current USCG Merchant Mariner Credential, Operator of Uninspected Passenger Vessel-Near Coastal.  This allows for the operation of a vessel for hire for up to 6 customers.


As the owner/operator of Backwater Expeditions LLC I am excited to offer this opportunity to both locals and visitors looking to enjoy our surrounding waters.  I have over 12 years patrolling Virginia waters working previously in maritime law enforcement.  I am well versed in marine resource law and hold an unparalleled dedication to maritime safety.  I also have numerous certifications and am a USCG Licensed Captain.  I currently serve on the local volunteer fire department and have served with various other departments and rescue squads since 2006.
